About us | A brief History |
|

|
At first mushrooms were just grown, around the world, as a side crop to flower production using dark spaces underneath potting tables and in caves. Gradually special rooms, known now as production units, needed to be created to control the precise environmental conditions necessary for production growing. Mushroom growing is an "art". It is a complex combination of feelings, emotions and sensation to create these exact condition in the growing rooms favorable for the mushrooms to feel comfortable to grow. The need of an experienced grower with extensive knowledge on mushroom growing is a must. Rissos Kyriakides, the founder of ‘Kyriakides Mushrooms’ is responsible for what it has become today which is a flourishing thriving mushroom growing business. He started cultivating mushrooms in 1979 and today’s success is due to his foresight commitment and dedication. At that time, very little was known about mushroom cultivation in Europe. By 1981 the one growing room where he manually produced Agaricus (white mushrooms) had become 6 growing rooms. A further 6 rooms were added in 1984 this time fully computer controlled. Now there are 14 growing rooms with a total growing space of 3080m2 which operate under the name of N&G Kyriakides Mushrooms LTD also known as Kyriakides Mushrooms. Today we are proud to boast that Kyriakides Mushrooms has the biggest production unit of mushrooms in Cyprus.
